Over the past 40+ years of my travels, uncertainty has always been a part of the journey. From wars and conflicts to airline strikes, recessions, and a global pandemic—there has never been a perfect time to travel. The key is not to wait for ideal conditions, but rather to travel wisely, stay informed, and choose your destinations with care. That’s where I come in—I can help guide you through it.
Would I recommend traveling to certain regions of the world right now? In some cases, no. However, if you are determined to go, I will respect your decision and ensure you are fully informed. I always refer clients to the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory page: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html. It’s a valuable resource for assessing current safety concerns, not just in your destination, but also in surrounding regions.
In addition to safety advisories, I also recommend checking the CDC’s travel health notices: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices. Diseases like Yellow Fever and Typhoid are still present in many parts of the world, and it’s better to be prepared—whether that means getting boosters or carrying appropriate medication. Some vaccines and precautions might not be pleasant, but they’re absolutely worth it—especially if you’re heading to remote regions like the Amazon or parts of India. And yes, you’ll earn that iconic yellow International Certificate of Vaccination booklet to tuck in with your passport!
Additional Travel Essentials:
- Visas: Many countries have reinstated visa requirements. Fortunately, many offer online applications (including photo uploads). Visit the State Department’s country-specific travel information here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages.html to confirm visa requirements and application procedures.
- Passports: Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date—many countries enforce this rule strictly.
Smart Travel Tips:
- Stay aware of your surroundings—street smarts go a long way
- Go off the beaten path—but do so safely
- Let someone know your whereabouts, and don’t travel alone if avoidable
- Enable phone tracking for safety and peace of mind
- Set designated check-in times with someone at home
- Purchase a local or international phone plan with voice and data access
- Use mobile maps for real-time navigation
- Consider travel insurance, and understand cancellation/refund clauses
- Do your research ahead of time
As an affiliate of Global Travel, I receive updates from their global risk management office. If at any time they raise a red flag about a destination, I will pass that information along to you immediately.
So—despite the unpredictability of the world, there’s still incredible value and joy in travel. The key is to be smart, be prepared, and embrace the adventure.
Let’s explore the possibilities together!

Amy
