Iceland Recap:

A Trip to Remember

– by Pattie H., a fellow Traveler and Wanderer at Heart

In June, I joined a whirlwind summer tour of Southern Iceland, and it’s hard to put into words just how incredible this journey was. From iconic sights to unexpected moments, each day revealed another side of this remarkable island.

Highlights Along the Way

  • The Golden Circle – Þingvellir National Park (standing on two continents where democracy was born), erupting geysers, and the mighty Gullfoss waterfall.
  • South Shore Adventures – vast lava fields, a volcanic crater so large it took 30 minutes to drive across, black sand beaches, and waterfalls you can walk behind (don’t forget a poncho!).
  • Reykjanes Peninsula – lunar-like landscapes that suddenly shift into green plains with mountain backdrops, a reminder of Iceland’s dramatic contrasts.
  • Blue Lagoon – soaking in milky waters, applying silica mud masks, and letting the saunas, steam rooms, and waterfall massages melt away stress.
  • Reykjavik – a vibrant city to return to after days of natural wonder.

Taste of Iceland

Fresh cod fish and chips straight from the ocean, iconic lamb hot dogs, and more — simple, authentic flavors that warmed us after long days of exploring.

Cultural Insights

We learned about Iceland’s ingenious geothermal energy, met the iconic Icelandic horses, and gained a deeper sense of history at Þingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A Shared Journey

Perhaps the greatest gift wasn’t just the landscapes but the connections we made. What began as 28 strangers became one adventurous family, united by laughter, exploration, and unforgettable memories.

I’m already counting the days until I can return — next time, to witness Iceland in winter magic.
